Witold Zacharewicz, a Polish Film
Actor of the 1930s, was born on August 26, 1914. He received an offer to make
movies in Hollywood (at United Artists Studio) but decided to do his Mandatory Polish
Military Service in 1938 first when the Germans invaded in September 1939 he
was serving as part of the Signal Squadron of the Mazovian Cavalry Brigade.
Witold Zacharewicz and his Family
(his Wife - Halina and Son- Kiejstut) were
involved in the production of False Documents for Jews hiding in Warsaw – even though
they were Catholics. The Gestapo discovered their activity. He was arrested,
along with his Mother, on October 1, 1942 and deported to Auschwitz the next
month.
He was murdered by the Germans in
Auschwitz on February 16, 1943 by either an injection of phenol to the heart or
executed by shooting. He was 28 years
old.
