Dubbing or Subtitles?
I prefer Dubbing (except when
it's done poorly like in Russia.)
When Russia used to get Hollywood
and other Blockbuster Non-Russian Films (before their War in Ukraine) the
Dubbing for new Releases was done like everywhere else with different Voices
for each Person. They don't get any of those good Films anymore.
But even long before their War in
Ukraine the vast majority of Non-Russian TV Shows and Movies airing on TV they
use the old 1990s System of Dubbing where they have 1 Old Man read every part
without regard to Gender or Expressions and you can usually hear the original
language underneath.
In 1992 (after the Soviet Union
Collapsed) Russia was flooded with 80 years worth of Non-Russian Movies and TV
Shows that were banned by the Communists - including every Hollywood Movie
and American TV Show.
To save time and money (because
their Economy had also completely collapsed) they Dubbed everything using the 1
One Man Method - and it was always an Old Man - never a Woman - and I swear it
was the same Guy.
Even when I lived and visited
there they used that same method (except, like I said for current
Blockbusters.)
Until February 2022 I used to
still get Movies and Shows from Russia by mail- including Non-Russian ones
since they were cheaper and tried to get the non-Dubbed ones, but they usually
were dubbed with that same Old Man.
