From KSAR’s Facebook:
“KSAR Winter Preparation”
$2,329 raised of $12,000 goal
This week, temperatures will
start dipping below freezing at night, and everyone at KSAR is working hard to
prep our facilities for the winter. We have been putting plastic sheeting over
the windows to help keep in the warm air. We are setting up electric heaters
and wood burning stoves, which are necessary due to the decreased electricity
we have in the winter months, often less than half the day. We are trying to
purchase as much wood as possible while the prices are still relatively low to
keep all our animals warm for the next few months. Each truckload of wood
(roughly 560kg) is around $75 USD, and we have 14 facilities of varying sizes
to keep warm. We don't know how hard this winter will be yet, but we'd like to
pre-purchase as much as possible. We estimate we will spend between
$2,000-$4,000 USD on heating supplies each month, depending on how cold it is,
and we could use all the help we can get!
