I recently watched the second season of "The Man In The High Castle." I can't streamline with my Internet so it takes a little more to get these movies and shows. I thought the first season of the show was really well made. I also read the book and liked that too. I have to say the second season really keeps things moving (in a good way.) The storylines have dug deeper than before. There still are the conflict between the Japanese and the Germans, the Japanese and the Resistance and the Germans and the Resistance. You never know who is really who they say they are. Some people look like heroes for their side and others look like traitors. One thing I didn't really care for this season is the expanded scenes where they go to the "real" 1960s. It was pretty slow and didn't help move things on. Things would have moved much more smoothly without that part included.
The characters grew more this season too. Juliana (played by Alexa Davalos) and Frank (played by Rupert Evans) each became faced with their own difficult choices and we see how their decisions affect by themselves and the others they know. Joe (played by Luke Kleintank) goes on a slightly different path and has to decide what kind of person he wants to become.
This season has that hint of the ever-present threat of war along with the old cloak-and-dagger feel of Cold War films and shows. The show also makes me stop and think what you would do if you found yourself in this scenario (an alternative world where the Japanese and Germans won World War 2.) Would you rather live under the Japanese or the Germans? Would you resist? Would you collaborate? The drama, the romance, the history, the espionage all work to bring the show together. I hope they make a third season.
