From USA Today:
"Los Angeles tops worst cities for traffic in USA"

Is there anything worse than sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hour? If you live in Los Angeles chances are you already feel like your car is your second home. Drivers in the City of Angels suffer from one of the worst rush hour periods in the world, according to an annual traffic index by navigation system maker, TomTom. L.A. drivers spend an additional 92 hours in traffic each year. During the peak rush hour there is 80% congestion, according to the index.  The index looks at traffic congestion in over 200 cities around the world and ranks 146 cities by overall congestion level and evening rush hour.  Los Angeles is the top U.S. city and is 10th in the world for worst traffic.  Istanbul, Turkey, came in first in the world for evening traffic, with drivers spending an additional 125 hours in the car annually.

^ I expected LA to have the worst traffic in the US. The people there try and act as though they are healthy-living yet they have some of the worst pollution in the country thanks in part to all their cars. I would have thought NYC would have been higher on the list - there has always been tons of traffic when I was there. Also, having lived in Metro DC they should have been higher on the list. Moscow and St. Petersburg didn't surprise me at all. They went from having a handful of cars during Czarist and Soviet times to an avalanche starting in 1992 and their roads weren't made for that. ^
