E-Visas

Countries have been issuing visas to enter their territory since the end of World War 1. Many countries now allow people to enter for business or tourism without needing a visa. Several require visas, but allow people to get them on arrival. There has been a new trend in recent years to give electronic visas (ie e-visas) to those that require authorization to enter a country. A traveler usually has to go to a country's embassy website or Ministry of Foreign Relations' website and type in their personal information, pay a fee and get confirmation. Some countries (ie Australia, the United States) claim certain nationalities don't need a visa to enter their territory and yet you still have to go online, type in your personal information and pay a fee. To me that is the same thing as a visa. An e-visa is a good thing because it allows people who don't live near an embassy to still travel.

Here is a list of countries that allow you to get an e-visa instead of a regular visa to enter their territory (some countries don't make all nationalities get either an e-visa or a regular visa, but those that require a visa can get an e-visa):
