From WMUR:
“Menorah lit outside NH State
House to celebrate start of Hanukkah”
Chabad of New Hampshire
celebrated the first night of Hanukkah by lighting a 13-foot tall menorah
outside the State House in Concord on Sunday.
Ukraine native Alexander
Kovalenko, who was invited to light the first candle, said he did it as a
support for Jews living through war in his home country. “It is very important.
We feel very supportive of Ukraine,” Kovalenko said. “We wish them well. We
hope they overcome all these difficulties they’re facing now, and we hope
they’ll survive and continue into the future.” Alexander said it was an honor
to be chosen to light the first candle, and he encouraged others to join him in
praying for Ukraine.
After the lightning ceremony,
people sang traditional songs and enjoyed sufganiyot, a type of Kelly donut. Chabad
of New Hampshire also sponsors public menorahs at Manchester’s city hall,
shopping malls around the state, and at the Dartmouth Green. Hanukkah, the
Jewish celebration of light, continues through December 26.
^ New Hampshire officially
celebrated the start of Chanukah today and even had a Ukrainian light the first
night to remember how the Ukrainians are suffering because of the Russians. You
can’t say New Hampshire isn’t a diverse place or that they don’t think about
the outside world. ^
