Military Dogs

From the Stars and Stripes:
"A tale of military training going to the dogs"

Thanks to stories of heroism and movies like “Max,” military working dogs have become a popular, and honored, part of U.S. military culture. They work in security, helping patrol military bases. They are used to sniff out drugs. And in war zones, they have saved countless lives by alerting troops to explosives. The dogs earn their place in military ranks by undergoing a rigorous training program, not unlike what servicemembers undergo in basic training. They learn to obey commands; they are put through their paces on obstacle courses that require them to run, leap and climb. One military dog named Bastas recently allowed The Associated Press to witness a small part of his training regimen.

^ Being a military brat I have seen countless military dogs on bases around the US and the world. They are as well-trained as other soldiers and serve important roles within the Military and should be treated in all respects as a regular soldier/veteran - regardless of them being dogs. ^
