4,000 To Africa

From Yahoo:
"U.S. says may deploy nearly 4,000 troops for Ebola response"

The Pentagon said on Friday the total number of U.S. forces that could be deployed to West Africa as part of America's response to the Ebola crisis could reach nearly 4,000, a figure well above estimates of about 3,000 previously given. "We project that there could be nearly 4,000 troops deployed in support of this mission but we are obviously assessing the requirements on a daily basis," said Rear Admiral John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary.

^ Where is the US getting all of these soldiers from (considering the down-sizing and budget cuts threatening the military?) We have soldiers still fighting in Afghanistan and thousands will stay in the country at the end of this year. We are fighting and bombing ISIS in Iraq and Syria (taking the lead in the coalition.) We are fighting Islamist extremists in eastern Africa and now we are going to send 4,000 soldiers to western Africa. I am a strong supporter of the US military (the soldiers, their families and vets) but not of the politicians and officials that send thousands upon thousands of troops to all different parts of the world and at the same time take money and resources from the military. Why can't we back off Africa and let countries like France and the UK to deal with terrorists and Ebola? The US never had a case of Ebola until very recently and now we have numerous cases. The government should focus its resources on checking anyone coming from Africa (whether US citizens or not) to see if they are sick before they can get into mainstream society again. That is more important to the US than sending troops to Africa. As for Afghanistan, if the bombings and shooting by Afghanis continue to wound, kill or threaten US lives then we should leave and let the Afghanis target their violence against each other. I agree with fighting ISIS since they are extremely strong and can reach outside of the Middle East. ^
