Canada Day!

"Canada Day 2014"

 OTTAWA—On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will attend the Canada Day Noon Show on Parliament Hill. Their Excellencies will be joined by the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and the Honourable Shelley Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, as well as thousands of Canadians and visitors. The Governor General will inspect the guard of honour upon his arrival and deliver a speech later on in the program. At approximately 3 p.m., following the Canada Day Noon Show, Their Excellencies will return to Rideau Hall and accompany Olympic medallist Clara Hughes, O.C., O.M., on a brief visit of the travellingIt’s An Honour!exhibit. As an Officer of the Order of Canada, Ms. Hughes is among the extraordinary Canadians featured in the display. Ms. Hughes will have just completed Clara’s Big Ride for Bell Let’s Talk an unprecedented 110-day bicycle journey around Canada focused on ending the stigma around mental illness. Activities at Rideau Hall On Canada Day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free activities will be offered at Rideau Hall including tours of the governor general’s official residence and It’s An Honour!, a cross-Canada travelling exhibit. The interactive exhibit, on site for four days only, from June 28 to July 1, introduces visitors of all of ages to the Canadian Honours System, which recognizes people for their extraordinary achievement, bravery, valour and service.

^ Today is Canada Day (the day Canada became one British colony with the joining of 3 separate British colonies.) It has been 147 years since that happened and 32 years since Canada became a fully independent country. ^
