Terrorist UN?

I think it's disgusting that the UN would even consider awarding the Palestinians any kind of upgraded status while half the Palestinians (in Gaza) elected and support a known terrorist group - Hamas - that has not only openly called for the destruction of Israel off the face of the Earth, but continues to use missiles and suicide bombers against them. If the Palestinians in the West Bank completely distanced themselves from Hamas and Gaza (for supporting them) then I wouldn't have an issue with the West Bank being awarded a higher status in the UN, but that is not the case. I was always taught that people that see bad things happen and either do nothing or help in any form are just as guilty as those that physically do the bad things. I have followed that motto ever since I can remember and so any people, organization or country that supports (militarily or diplomatically) a known terrorist group can only be considered one and the same with the terrorist group.

Nine countries (Canada, Czech Republic, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Panama, and United States) completely rejected the upgraded status.

Forty-one countries (Albania, Andorra, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Colombia, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Estonia, Fiji, Germany, Guatemala, Haiti, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Poland, Republic of Korea,  Moldova, Romania, Rwanda, Samoa, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Togo, Tonga, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Vanuatu) abstained from approving or rejecting the new status.

Five countries (Equatorial Guinea, Kiribati, Liberia, Madagascar, and Ukraine) were absent from the vote.

One hundred and thirty-eight countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, China, Comoros, Congo, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Cyprus, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Denmark, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Gabon, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Honduras, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Russian Federation, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Republic of Tanzania, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) approved of the upgraded status of a terrorist group.

I am proud as a dual Canadian-American that both Canada and the United States stood up for what is right and did not support a terrorist group. If I was from a country that did I would be ashamed and embarassed that the government that is supposed to represent me would rather help a terrorist group than do the right thing.
