For Victory in Europe Day (V-E
Day) tomorrow: Here is the National World War 2 Memorial in Washington DC.
It was opened in 2004 and receives
4.6 Million Visitors every year.
It has 56 Granite Pillars
(representing the US States and Territories) and two Arches representing the
Atlantic Theater of War and the Pacific Theater of War.
It has 4,048 Gold Stars. Each Star
represents 100 Americans who died during the War.
Out of a 1939 Population of 131,020,000
the US had 419,000 died (407,300 Soldiers and 12,100 Civilians.)
Areas of the United States
that was bombed, but not occupied by the Japanese during World War 2:
Hawaii (1941) the western US (Oregon, Washington and California – 1942-1945)
and Midway (1942.)
Areas of the United States that
were occupied by the Japanese during World War 2: The Philippines
(1942-1945), Guam (1942-1945), Wake Island (1942-1945) and the Aleutian Islands
of Alaska (1942-1943.)
