DoDDS
The Department of Defense
Dependents Schools (DoDDS) are a network of schools, both Primary and Secondary,
that serve the Dependents of United States Military and Civilian United States
Department of Defense (DoD) Personnel in Europe, the Pacific, the Caribbean and
the eastern US (all only on American Bases.)
DoDDs is the 10th
Largest School District of the US.
While DoDDS is free for and
Military and Civilian Dependent whose Parents are on Official Orders others can
also send their Children to a DoDDs School by paying.
DoDDS started in 1946, after World
War 2 to give American Education to American Children on American Bases Overseas.
In 1946 the first DoDDs Schools
were in West Germany (West Berlin, Bremen, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Munich and
Nurnberg.)
In 2024 DoDDs operates 160
Schools in 11 Countries, 7 US States and 2 US Territories – across 10 Time Zones
– with a total of 66,416 Students.
