Former POW Day

^ Today is National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day in the US. While it is a day to remember all former American POWs it was established on April 9th because it was the date in 1942 that 60,000–80,000 Filipino and American soldiers surrendered to the Japanese (becoming Prisoners of War) and the Bataan Death March started in which there were between 5,000 to 18,000 Filipino deaths and 500 to 650 American deaths. ^
