Khawlah Noman

From the BBC:
"Toronto police say scissor attack on a girl's hijab 'did not happen'"

Canadian police say an alleged scissor attack on an 11-year-old girl's hijab never happened.  The girl made headlines last week after she said a man came up to her and tried to cut her hijab off. Toronto police now say the incident, which they were treating as a hate crime, "did not happen". The investigation sparked a national outcry, including from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who expressed his concern on Twitter.  "After a detailed investigation, police have determined that the events described in the original news release did not happen," the police said in a brief press release on Monday morning. "The investigation is concluded."   Police say they are no longer seeking a suspect. During an emotional press conference last Friday, where she was accompanied her mother, Khawlah Noman said she was afraid to go back to school.  Her mother told media this was "just not Canada".

^ I don't think this investigation should be "concluded." The girl (and her parents if they knew it was fake) need to be prosecuted and punished. She not only made-up a fake crime, but made-up a fake hate crime and that is beyond disgusting and should be criminal. I really hope this follows Khawlah Norman for the rest of her life (in any college or job she applies for, etc.) I understand 11 year olds can lie, but not many lie about hate crimes. After this "attack" was reported everyone in Canada (including the Prime Minister) went off on the "attackers." Now that it was found the girl and possibly her parents lied about the fake hate crime nothing is being said by anyone and the girl and her parents aren't going to be facing criminal or any other charges. That is what is really wrong about this whole thing. She did not simply lie about a crime, but about a hate crime just to get attention and she needs to be charged with making a false report of a hate crime. Right now I am ashamed to call myself Canadian - they were so quick to go after the "attackers" and promote how great Canada is for minorities, etc. and now weasel away like nothing happened. They have even stopped using her picture and her name to "protect" her. Her name is: Khawlah Noman and her picture is above. You can't simply white-wash a crime when it no longer suits you. ^
