Missed Hint

The next door neighbor called me earlier today (I have only seen or spoken to him a few times over the years, but he is very nice) to ask if the plow guys did my driveway not do his for any particular reason. Until last month we used the same plow guys, but they don't put dirt on the driveways or come for a few days after a snow storm so we switched to someone who uses dirt and comes a few hours after the snow has stopped. We didn't pay the old plow guys anything so I couldn't complain. We pay the new plow guy so I could complain if I need to, but so far there's been no need (knock on wood.)
I offered to come and do my neighbor's driveway myself (he is a Vietnam Veteran and his wife is sick or disabled - I have never seen or spoken to her) but he said that was not necessary. I also repeated my open-invitation to come to my house for anything - especially if the power goes out since he has a small generator that does one room while I have a whole house generator. He did mention that the snow ridge at the end of his driveway was pretty high and the snow there heavy. At the time I didn't catch the hint. A few minutes ago I saw him outside shoveling the ridge himself. By the time I put my Winter gear on to go help he was done and inside. I am now extremely embarrassed. I tell others to check on the elderly, the disabled and pets and yet I missed the hint and did nothing. I really need to focus more on what is said and do more to help where I can.
