"Merkel to Putin: Ukraine's territorial integrity should be restored"
Ukraine's territorial integrity must be restored, and the sides will continue work in that direction.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced this at a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 10. "We should take into consideration the fact that the point at issue is the implementation of the Minsk complex of measures," eurointegration.com.ua quoted Merkel as saying. "The point at issue is the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and we will continue to jointly work on that," she said. According to Merkel, Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and its military actions in Ukraine caused a "severe setback" to cooperation between Russia and Germany and was "a violation of the basis of the common peaceful order of Europe."
^ It's good to see that the Ukraine isn't completely forgotten by other countries. Germany, like most of the EU and the world, tends to only talk tough, but do very little to actually give assistance. The EU has an excuse - it can barely take care of its own member-states (ie Greece) and since every country has to come to an agreement to make anything happen the result is that very little happens. The US has an excuse - we are struggling trying to fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria along with all our other commitments (military and otherwise) around the world. Russia is too busy fighting alongside and supplying the ethnic Russian terrorists in eastern Ukraine and "cleaning" up all traces of the Ukraine and the Tartars in the Crimea. The rest of the world doesn't seem to care and does nothing. That leaves the part of the Ukraine that isn't annexed to Russia or under ethnic Russian terrorist-control to fight the war. So far Kyiv has been doing it's best - for the past year - but there needs to be more pressure by the world's governments on Russia to return the Crimea and leave eastern Ukraine. Yesterday was Victory Day in Russia (the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2 - Russia doesn't have a separate Victory Day over Japan Day since they only declared war on Japan a few days before the war ended and the US had already dropped an atomic bomb - yet Russia is still officially at war with Japan) and it seems that while the Soviets risked everything back in the 1940s to defeat a foreign invasion and occupation of their territory the Russians today have become the invaders and occupiers themselves in the Ukraine. It is up to Russia to stop supplying the ethnic Russian terrorists in eastern Ukraine with weapons and men and to return the Crimea back to the Ukraine. Once that is done the violence and deaths that have been going on for over a year will end. I don't see that happening anytime soon especially if the world continues to look the other way and not help Kyiv in its fight for existence. ^
