Being Self-Centered

It is pretty annoying to see people on Facebook and other social media sites talk about their lives and yet when something major happens to you (good or bad) and those same people don't "have the time" to write something to you. The old saying that you find out who is truly your friend when you need something is true. When my friends (I only "friend" those I have personally met - unlike those that simply "collect" hundreds of strangers) have birthdays, new children, marriages, deaths, promotions, etc I try to comment on their status. You would think they would do the same (especially when someone passes) but unfortunately that hasn't been the case. A handful have written and that has been nice - it tends to be the people I am close with so that helps even more - but the majority remain silent or make a comment not realizing what happened and then are "cornered" into saying something polite when they learn. I don't want fake sympathy. I guess I need to focus on those that have always been there and try and forget the others. I am still new to this - it has only been 9 days (4 since I no longer had to make sure everything was done correctly) and so I guess I just have to live and learn. I know I'm not the first person this has happened to and I won't be the last.
