S.D's OK

From USA Today:
"S.D. lawmakers OK transgender bathroom limits"

South Dakota is one signature away from becoming the first state in the country to enact a law that would bar transgender students from using bathrooms, locker rooms and shower facilities of the gender with which they identify if it doesn't correspond with their biological sex. The South Dakota Senate approved the bill Tuesday on a 20-15 vote, moving it to Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard's desk for his approval. Daugaard has said the measure seems like a good idea and would listen to recorded testimony before making up his mind on whether to make the bill law. Under the proposal, transgender students who don't want to use the facilities based on their biological gender would have to submit a request to their school district for accommodation in separate facilities.  Transgender advocacy groups and the American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota have opposed the bill, saying it would allow for discrimination against transgender students. The state's House of Representatives approved the measure on a 58-10 vote last month. The U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Justice have sided with transgender students in saying that school districts that require them to use a separate restroom are in violation of Title IX rules. A handful of school districts across the country have faced legal challenges to similar policies that bar transgender students from using bathrooms and locker rooms of the gender with which they identify.

^ I know the current "trend" is to be so politically-correct on everything that we stop thinking for ourselves, but I don't think anyone who is trans-gendered should use the public restroom, locker room or showers of the gender they identify with just because they identify with that gender over the one they currently are. If the trans-gendered have an official sex change then they should have all the rights to use the facilities of their new gender, but a man dressing as a woman or a woman dressing as a man doesn't make you into that new gender. Of course there should be laws against the bullying and discrimination of the trans-gendered, but that shouldn't mean the rights of the non-transgendered should be forfeited. A man dressed as a woman using the female showers would make many women uncomfortable. Besides there is no authority to say that a person is trans-gendered or merely dressing up as the opposite sex so they can see the opposite sex in intimate situations. Like, I said before if a  person has an official sex change and changes their official government documents to their new gender then they should have full-access to their new gender's facilities. That shows true commitment to their new identity. ^
