Ukraine's Security

From UNIAN:
"Ukraine embarks on UN Security Council's non-permanent membership"

Ukraine has officially taken up its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations as of January 1, 2016.   Ukrainian diplomats thank all member states for support of Ukraine, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations said. "We are ready to closely cooperate in ensuring global peace and security," a mission representative said. The UN Security Council consists of 15 members: five permanent with the right to veto, and 10 non-permanent members. The permanent members are France, the United Kingdom, the United States, China and the Russian Federation, and non-permanent ones are Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Ukraine is the legal successor of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which was a Founding Member of the UN. As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine on October 15, 2015, was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2016-2017. Head of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Volodymyr Yelchenko, has recently replaced Yuriy Sergeyev.

^ The UN doesn't always do what is right for the world and needs a good overhaul, but hopefully with the Ukraine being part of the Security Council this year will make the Russians stop their war in the country so the Ukrainians can continue on their course to modernize themselves and become even more apart of the international community. ^
