"Government Approves Rules For Medical Care for Foreigners"
The government has approved new rules for providing medical
care to foreigners, including free emergency health care, a decree published
Wednesday said. Foreign nationals temporarily or permanently residing in
Russia are eligible for free medical assistance for sudden acute illnesses and
exacerbations of chronic diseases that are life threatening, according to a
decree published on the Garant legal information portal. "Emergency and specialized medical care is provided to
foreign nationals in case of diseases, accidents, injuries, poisoning and other
conditions that require immediate medical intervention. At medical
organizations within the state and municipal health system, such medical care
is provided free of charge to foreign nationals," the decree said. Other emergency treatment or routine health care is provided
to foreign nationals for a fee or in accordance with their existing health
insurance plan.
^ This is good news although I know many Russians who do not use their own health care system because of the long waits, poor sanity and lack of good equipment and doctors. You would think that the Russian Government should fix their crumbling health care system before expanding it (I said the same thing about the US Government and our new health care law.) ^
