I just saw this movie today. The full title is: "Oz: The Great and Powerful." I thought is was a good (but not great) movie. There were lots of times when it seemed to drag on forever and were boring. I did like the colorful scenes, but most of the movie was dark. I also don't see any reason to pay to see the 3-D version just because it is the trend nowadays - just like it was in the 1950s.. James Franco was ok as Oz, but not the best. Mila Kunis didn't look or sound like the Wicked Witch of the West. I usually like her, but like Franco, she didn't seem to fit here. Zach Braff was funny as Finly and I liked the China Doll too. They both added real comic relief - without much trying. The basic storyline was decent, but had no twists or turns to keep you guessing what was going to happen. It was a very straightforward movie.
While the movie was rated PG I think it should have been rated PG-13 since it was pretty dark and had very little for children. Speaking of children: guess who sat right behind us in the theater? A family with 2 little kids (around 4 and 8.) They get kicking the seats, talking loudly and just being annoying. The parents did little to quiet them. It is times like these that I wish they had kid-free places (ie theaters, planes, restaurants, etc.) Why do other people have to be subjected to the screams of people's children and waste their money?
I heard they are already planning a sequel to this prequel. I am not sure if I would see it in the theater or wait for it on Netflix.
