"Winter is Coming! - It's
not just a "Game of Thrones" reference, but a Mountain one. I am
going on my 13th Northern New England Mountain Winter and every year I prepare
now before the snow starts in September (sometimes in October.) They are very harsh
with temperatures down to -50 F and feet upon feet of snow.
I make sure my Jeep has emergency
supplies (including Winter-related items), the Propane Tank is full, the
Generator is serviced, there are bottled water, canned food (for humans and
dogs), the heaters are working, there's back-up firewood, we have a large
supply of de-icing salt (including pet friendly kinds) and a large supply of
sand for all the ice we will get.
I also have an emergency bag that
I take when I'm in other people’s car - just in case.
This year my Dad got me an
electric snow shovel for the balcony and walkways so I will see how well that
works.
This Tuesday our new snow blower
will arrive. The old one was from 2009 and has been used a lot - plus with my Sister working days and her
Boyfriend working nights we will have a busy job keeping the walkways and
driveway cleared.
We contacted the snow plow guy
(who will also clear our leaves this Fall) to get on his route.
