New Passport

I had to renew my Canadian Passport and finally got it in the mail today. Unlike my old passport which was non-biometric and only valid for 5 years my new one is biometric and valid for 10 years (although you have the choice to get a 5 year one.) One thing that really gets me is that as a Canadian living in the US I had to pay $100 more than a Canadian living within Canada. That is another thing that changed with the new biometric passport. It's not enough that the Canadian Government continues to openly discriminate against Canadians born outside of Canada (native, not naturalized) by refusing them to pass their Canadian Citizenship to their children, but we also have to pay $100 more than a Canadian living within Canada to get out passports and you can't enter Canada without a valid Passport. Not only do we have to pay more, but it also takes longer to get the Passport send to us once it's made. It amazes me how the Canadian Government preaches that Canada is such a modern, open-minded and accepting country and yet they (the Canadian Government) is allowed to openly discriminate against Canadians simply because they were born outside of Canada (even if they were born to Canadian parents.) I have my Canadian Passport just in case I ever go back to Canada, but will use my American Passport when I travel anywhere else in the world. I am considered a native-born Canadian born outside of Canada to the Canadian Government and a native-born American to the American Government.  Unlike Canada that has always discriminated against Canadians like myself, the US Government has not done the same to native-born (vs. naturalized) Americans like me. Canada really needs to rethink its open-door policy of discrimination against its own citizens if they want to portray themselves as a country that is morally superior to all others.
