There was once a time that a country had a national airline (well the United States never did) and now they are mostly a thing of the past.
Here are the countries that have 100% State-Owned Flag Carriers (those in bold I have flown):
- Angola, Argentina, Bahamas, Belarus, Bolivia, Botswana, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ecuador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Laos, Malawi, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nauru, Nepal, North Korea, Serbia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Veneuela and Zimbabwe.
Here are the countries that have a Majority State-Owned Flag Carriers with the percentages (those in bold I have flown):
- Afghanistan, Algeria (95%), Bosnia (50%), Bulgaria (59%), Cambodia (51%), China (51%), Cyprus (70%), Czech Republic (95%), Fiji (51%), Indonesia, Kazakhstan (51%), Kenya, Kuwait (65%), Latvia (99%), Madagascar, Malta, New Zealand (73%), Oman, Pakistan (90%), Romania (95%), Russia (51%), Saudi Arabia, Slovenia (70%), Thailand (51%), Trinidad and Tobago (84%), Tunisia, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
