Trump's Parade

From USA Today:
"President Trump's military parade will feature period uniforms but no tanks"

The military parade ordered by President Trump will boast troops in period military uniforms from the Revolutionary War to the present, but there will be no tanks rumbling through the nation's capital, according to a Pentagon planning memo released Friday.  Trump called for the parade last month, and the White House has estimated that it will cost as much as $30 million. It is scheduled for Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. "This parade will focus on the contributions of our Veterans throughout the history of the U.S. military, starting from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to today, with an emphasis on the cost of freedom," the memo for the Joint Chiefs of Staff states. Think the red jackets, gray wigs and black tricorner hats that the Army Old Guard's Fife and Drum Corps wear for celebrations and re-enactments Defense Secretary Jim Mattis gave planners several matters to consider, according to the memo. They include: the route, from the White House to the Capitol; formations of troops "wearing period uniforms,"; and the use of "wheeled vehicles only, no tanks — consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure." If the parade can't feature the M1 Abrams tank, it will boast a "heavy air component at the end of the parade, to include older aircraft as available," according to the memo. Trump has expressed a desire for such a parade and was impressed by the Bastille Day march he witnessed on a trip to Paris last year.  Democrats in Congress have shown no love for Trump's parade. They introduced the "PARADE" Act — Preventing the Allocation of Resources for Absurd Defense Expenditures — bill to keep taxpayers from footing the bill.

^  I believe the United States should have more parades to show our support, appreciation and love for our country, our military and our achievements. I don't think we need to make them gaudy (I don't want to see Trump participating in the parade himself, but watching it from a stand) like some other countries do where they try too hard to "show off" and instead they look sad and pathetic. ^
